Celtic need to get moving to kickstart summer transfer window

Celtic are safely through to the next qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League with a victory over Alashkert.

The Hoops took a 3-0 lead back to Scotland for the second-leg and took an early lead through Moussa Dembele. Jozo Simunovic was given his marching orders minutes later before Dembele grabbed his second from the penalty spot. A late goal from James Forrest sealed the victory and set up a clash against Rosenborg.

If Celtic are to progress in the Champions League, Brendan Rodgers needs to strengthen his squad this summer. The Hoops are yet to make a significant signing despite landing Odsonne Eduoard and Scott Bain on permanent deals. With Rangers bringing in nine new players, it’s time for Celtic to open their chequebook.

A great signing could be Cruzeiro midfielder – Giorgian de Arrascueta. Valued at £8.1m by Transfermarkt, landing the 24-year-old would be a huge statement on intent from the Scottish champions. De Arrascueta is considered one of the most promising attacking midfielders emerging from South America.

His performances earned him a place in Uruguay’s World Cup squad, and he made two appearances in Russia. De Arrascueta is known for his expert dribbling and close control that makes him a defender’s nightmare. He is also deadly from set-pieces.

The Uruguayan would add some creativity to the Celtic midfielder as they look to retain their title next year.
